    m50 vs vr6?

I'm gonna swap an m50 vanos into my 90 325i. My buddy has a 98 gti vr6 with exhaust, intake and chip. What would be a good set up to beat him in a race?

    drag race? rolling 20? canyon?
    what kinda race?

OBDII set up for motor, chip the DME-red label is best or custome tune, cat-back, car would scream with a 4.10 LSD in there, i mean it would walk most cars. s50 cam and other internals would do a lot.

with that you will beat cars way better than a FWD VR6

vr6 is stock at like 170 sumthin hp and the M50 is 180 sumthin? idk the E30 is also lighter.

yeah but with the mods i listed it would get him close to 200. plus the 4.10 diff would have him burning it up!!! im buying a chipped eta soon that is pretty quick, im gonna try to source a 3.73 LSD and make it scream!

OP, you could always throw a turbo on the sucker :D, 15lbs of boost do wonders!

OBDII setup would lose power on an M50
why do u think the M52B25 has less power?

There's a lot more to a vehicles performance then it's peak horsepower number on a dyno.

My cammed m50, with a proper tune, headers, 2.5" exhaust, cold air intake, blah blah blah, doesn't "walk most cars". It definitely isn't putting a VR6 car in the rearview mirror. Yeah, it makes 185whp at 6500 RPM's. But it only makes 165 whp at 5500 RPM's. And at 4500, it's down to 140.

An OBD-II conversion on an m50b25tu is probably the weirdest, most difficult, and most useless thing you could do, all in the name of losing horsepower...

This just voided everything you have already said, or will say in the future.

ok typo on the obdII shit, i'll take that one.
did you not read the 4.10 diff i said to install? thats where he'd get a lot of acceleration from!

and have you been in the eta im buying? NO!
idk what else is done to it besides exhaust, but that thing pulls HARD!

A 4.10 will make the car accelerate faster in each gear but you will have to shift more often, you could very likely lose straight line acceleration from this but it will feel faster.

Do you have an m5x/s5x? If you don't you probably shouldn't be in here, you don't seem to have very good ideas.

And you know this from experience? What kind of data do you have to back up what you're saying? Have you done before/after timed acceleration runs? 1/4 mile time/speed? Anything at all to prove that an e30 with a 4.10 will accelerate from x-xx considerably faster then the same e30 with a 3.73?

Just stop. You're making an ass out of yourself.
