    is this too cold?

I currently have hook ups on mishimoto parts and purchased m50 62degree thermostat

    and 14" electric fans

do you think this will be too cold and won't make my engine work properly or should i just get the 80 degree part# 11-53-1-713-040
I'm not runing a clutch fan and currently no a/c

62degC? The ECU wont ever come out of cold start mode.

Whut? A 62*C thermostat? Might as well just not install a thermostat if you want it that cold.

yeah, thats way to cold to run efficiently.

How are the fans hooked up?

im running the same thermostat as the M20 had(cant recall the temp)... it keeps the gauge in the right spot :p

I run a 77°C thermostat. I currently have no fan setup on my swap, and I don't go passed this point:

Running a colder thermostat isn't going to magically make your cooling system more effective.

The temperature rating of a thermostat is when it opens, once it is wide open coolant flows through the radiator the same as if you had a warmer temp thermostat, if your cooling system i.e. waterpump rad and cooling fan cannot dissipate heat fast enough the coolant temp is going to rise end of story.

The thermostat will stay open until the coolant temp drops to its open/close temp so it will try to keep the temp down but without airflow heat cannot be dissipated through the radiator

If you are sitting in traffic on a hot day with no cooling fan it doesn't matter how cold a thermostat you have your engine is going to overheat.

Running that cold will be terrible for your power output. 185ish is where the ECU defaults the Coolant temp if the sensor goes bad. At least for OBD2. If you are planning on lowering the overall coolant temp, try and plan for that..

185*F = 85*C. Stock is 88*C usually but some engines were 92*C stock.

This is a great response if it's correct. I've never really understood how a thermostat works, now I do. thanks
