Heh, yes it is correct. The thermostat helps to "regulate" the temperature. The thing that keeps the temp down is the radiator and the air flowing over it. Without the air, there is nothing for the heat to transfer to. It just stays in the cooling system. I have a single 16" pusher, just that alone will bring the temp down between the operating temp mark and the first quarter mark. I need to install a lower temp fan switch though so the car can fan itself when it needs to.

My temp reads a bit more than half and sometimes it wobbles when it goes over. I have an aux fan but i still dont think its good enough. This post is helping me learn a thing or two but....Is my situation normal or should i just do the thermo anyway? Whats the best one to order?

That's not how you're car was designed to run and that isn't how it was supposed to run. All of you running extra cold thermostats, thinking it improves cooling efficiency, are total idiots.

Although mostly true, it is a good idea to bump down from the factory 92C thermo on these 24v motors as sensitive as they are to HG issues from running hot but i would never go below an 80C. Anything below that and you risk dropping the ECU back into cold start enrichment mode.
