    SPAL fan wiring/relay kit question

I'm about to order the fan and other required bits for my 16" pusher setup, and I'm not sure on what wiring/relay kit I need. There's 3 available, the basic relay kit, the 185 degree relay kit, or the 195 degree relay kit. The basic is only $34.99 and the other 2 are $49.99, so obviously I'd like to go with the cheaper one if I can, but if not, it's only a $15 difference.

BTW, this will be on an M42 radiator with a NV M50.

Why don't you just use your stock fan wiring? Easy as pie.
    paint sucks

Where is the existing fan wiring, in the part of the harness that runs around the front with all of the lighting wiring, or in the E34 harness that I'll be putting in?

It's in the body harness that remained with the car, and if you leave the resistor in line you can likely retain low and high speed. I can draw up a diagram if there isn't one here somewhere already.

BTW amazon has many of the Spal 16" models for cheaper with free shipping. ;)

Should work exactly the same on a 24V engine:

Ah, I should have no problem, or rather, Andrew should have no problem wiring that up for me. :D

Since i have bad electricals in the car i opted for the harness kit. I just don't trust 20+ y/o wiring harness lol.

sorry for highjacking, but for the guys that don't have an Andrew :p (like me)

Are there any pics of the actual harness all wired together? I've seen lots of wiring diagrams but reading them is not my forte.

I have this picture with the thermo switch wiring on the left, the fan wiring in the middle and the aux wiring on the left. So if I manage to mash all of these together in the right order the fan will work no problem?

You can leave the thermo switch wired via the car's harness and use the stock aux fan wiring as long as your new fan pulls less amps than the e30's OE aux fan.(many newer fans do) then remove the harness from the stock aux fan (cut close to the motor where there are only 2 wires, these are the 2 wires that will connect to you new fan just like the stock aux fan originally was. be sure to verify the polarity.(brown is ground on the BMW harness) I outlined it in my build thread below, and can take more pictures if you need it.

So you kept your A/C and just swapped the fan?

Yep, I changed out the fan to a more efficient modern design and the switch in the radiator. Kept functioning A/C and eliminated the need for a mechanical fan all together. The Spal fans moves more air while pulling less amps.
