Can someone PLEASE clearify IX Booster swap

Okay, before I move forward in installing my M50 motor/tranny, can someone please tell me what I need to do with the IX booster I'm going to be using? I was told that this booster will work fine without any modifying. Then I go to read some threads regarding use of the ix booster and I'm reading stuff like:

    (1) Don't use the spacer on the ix booster and 2 of the 4 holes on the
firewall where it mounts to need to be notched?

    (2) shaft on the booster has to be cut & rewelded to size or tapped and
re-threaded? (thought you only needed to do that if using 320i
    booster?)

    (3) Need to use MC fron an E32 735i? (I was told I can just use the stock
    ix booster one)

So, for those of you that are using the IX Booster, will you please tell me (in simple, clear explanation) what you did to make work? I would really appreciate it because right now, I am lost and scratching my head as to how it needs to sit. I currently have it installed WITH the spacer, using all 4 holes WITHOUT modified holes AND using the stock MC on an ix booster with the hardlines going into them already. Pics would also serve a bonus too so I can get an idea on what I should visually expect on the clearance between the booster and the intake manifold. TIA.

you have really 2 options with the IX booster, and i think this is where the confusion comes in.... IX and e32 MC are basically the same and it doesnt matter which you use.

    a) do as you mention in (1), the shaft will need to be shortened and re threaded, but i havent done one this way so im not sure how much

    b) bolt it up as is with spacer direct Plug and play(like you have done), you will then require a remote reservoir because your MC will end up under the throttle body partially. Using the 2002 remote res combo seems to be the most common, but there are many other options for remote res availible. This is how i did mine

Both cases may require bending/re-routing brake lines

Okay so, theres no way you can use the stock ix mc & resivoir if I use the spacer than? And if not using the spacer, then I can use the stock ix mc & resivoir but will have to cut shaft and re-thread then, correct?

Can anyone advise on how much of the shaft will need to be cut and re-threaded if I do the non-spacer route?

      Thanks MattM for helping clarify.

stock(IX) MC you can use, stock res no

yes, eliminating the spacer allows the res to fit normally

If you use all IX it should fit. You have to have an ABS equipped car though.

Let me know, I have everything if you want it. It came out of a swapped E30 parts car.

And my car does have that. I am swapping it into a '90 325i that has ABS. So the way I have it sitting in there now should be okay then huh? But using a 2002tii resevoir seems pretty easy to do if I have difficulty using the ix one.

Cool. Thanks for all the advise everyone!!!

i just installed 1 in my soon to be m50 car...318is ABS and lines, 325ix MC and booster, I can get you detailed pics...

1 line was 2 inches short of ABS, but I bent it to fit

              Please leave feedback below, thanks

pictures or a how to? I'm staring at my ix booster and I have no clue what I need to do to it to make it work for my S52 swap. I'd like to cut the shaft and re-thread it but I have no idea how far.

Just reuse the stock non ix booster. It took me all of 15 minutes to slot the holes, move it over, and redrill the hole in the brake pedal. Plus i didn't have to bend any of my brake lines to make it fit. Shave the back few fins off the intake mani and your good to go.

Unfortunately, by the time it gets to you, all of that fancy stuff will likely have been picked clean by the greedy postal service employees. Please don't be surprised to see just a plain envelope.

I guess this is the easiest (and least expensive) thing to do.

Anyone want to buy an ix brake booster with the MC?

525i e34 has the same booster has the IX. Needs the same modification. I actually cut and shortened (re-weld) instead of re-tap.

Can be mounted with or without brackets.

Without, the brake reservoir clears the intake boot. Its a really clean setup. I'm using it.

As for MC. IX, 525i or 7'er. they are all the same. The fitting angle might be a little different, but nothing you can't bend even by hand.
                      No more e30s for me.

e34 m5 master works as well, without the spacer and tapped threads, or with a remote reservoir. You guys slotting things make it harder than it needs to be.

I don't have first hands experience with this, but from all the research I've done it seems that your two best options would be to either move the stock booster away from where the manifold is going to be, OR Porsche 944 booster which only requires the rod to be shortened and rethreaded and supposedly mounts in the same location with no other modifications. (dunno how true that second option is)

It is 100% true, this is what I did on my recently completed swap.

                              yes, that's another possible C-C-C-Combo!

they are all one and the same.
IMHO, remote resevoir looks ugly as hell. functional, yes.
