its doable as long as you have all the parts. I keep doing the two step forward, one back deal. Wobble Wobble. Not having to mess with a trans swap and diff is going to be a time saver.

Fuck, the only thing limiting me is my lack of a Cherry Picker. It costs too much to rent one haha.

    3 months since I started!

got it home, tore it down, had to source a new head, off to machine shop, rebuild, buy parts as I went. That and other things took priority over it. Wife, school, vacations, etc.

next one will hopefully be done in 2 days, probably dropping the subframe route.

Mine took 9 months. But I stripped the car down to the frame. Filled the entire chassis with high density foam, re-enforced every bit of the car. Converted to 5 lug, Fabricated all things associated to 6 speed. Completely new interior. But it was also my first big project.

If you are using all the right puzzle pieces and you have your ducks in a row. You can do it in 1 day.

Never done it by dropping the subframe, but I think it would be really easy that way.

Never had a load-leveler. Just as easy to change the angle of the body if you need to. Plus, I catch the transmission tail with a jack as I lower it in and I can adjust the angle of the motor with the jack as it lowers in (that helps keep it from catching on the sway bar).

Fogot to mention... I swapped the brake booster the week before as a standalone project so it was ready to go.

Label all of your fuel hoses and stuff so that silly shit doesn't derail you.

It's the little things that can get you. I got a 320i brake booster that turned out to be bad so ended up slotting my firewall to move the stock booster over. Once the engine was in I learned that the head gasket was leaking. Turned out the PO of the engine loosened all the head bolts. Bought new bolts and a HG and spent two evenings getting that swapped. Last night I figured out why the fuel pump wasn't powered - no main relay signal from the DMW. I hadn't spliced both green wires from the harness to the green wire on the C101 connector. Lastly, my fuel lines were backwards. Oops. Runs now. Point is, there are a lot of little things that might get in your way. If you can afford to buy the transmission bracket from White325is and have a wiring adapter made, things should go smoother. You don't NEED an engine leveler but you sure do want one. I didn't use one and swapped the engines by myself but it wasn't easy.

    Good luck.

Took me just under two weeks. I go to school and work part time so I was limtited. Had to borrow rides. Had a few setbacks along the way too, but that's expected. God bless good buddys help on the late nights working.
