Strange electrical issues, no windows or heat

Got my M50 running, and it's awesome. It's 90* outside right now, and I have to drive with my all black interior with a car that can't put its windows down, the sunroof back, or turn on the blower motor to get some air inside.
The only place I think I F'd up my wiring is when I grounded the harness to the main power. It prevented my car from starting, so I grounded it to the strut tower and fixed my starting problem. However I think I may have screwed something up?
My windows don't work and my blower motor fans don't work. I tried switching fuses around my fuse box but to no avail. Anyone have this problem before?

Sounds like your Unloader relay circuit, it's either K5 or K7 i can't remember. Since this circuit is grounded through the starter (smallest wire), it might not be grounding out through the starter.

Did you use a rebuilt starter by any chance?

Not too sure if it was rebuilt, I got it from a shell we had laying around since it looked to be in better condition than mine....
Anyway I can test this? I don't want to pull my starter again

Help before I sweat to death!

Nothing in the HVAC panel works if that helps..the AC button when pressed doesn't turn blue.

On mine the window problem was the unloaded relay not being grounded. On a stock e30 it's involved in the harness but with the new one it isn't there. Cut the one from the fuse box and ground it. Relay k5 or 7 for whichever model car and the windows should get power again, worked for me. Good luck.

Hmm, can you be a little more detailed? Still don't quite get what I have to do.

You are looking for a green/black wire. It is supposed to cut power to HVAC and windows while the starter is running, thus the "unloader" part.

Ah, so coming from the Fuse box, I am looking for a green/black wire, and I have to ground that, correct?

its in harness, on your starter, and in your adaptor for harness if you have 1...

                  i just grounded it

yep take the wire off the starter and ground that, just make sure after if you're starting the car to turn the blower off. My car sometimes is a little moody if I try to start it with everything on. Also, a slightly more ghetto solution is opening up the fusebox and grounding it there. Find the green/black wire going to K5 and K7, cut, ground the part to the relays to a brown wire and isolate the part to the starter. Less nice but you don't have to reach the starter.

Ah, so ground the small starter wire to lets say, the strut tower?

First off, check relays, maybe fuses, but most importantly, relays.

                          If relays test good:

                          1. Make a jumper wire with some male spade terminals on each end.
                          2. Remove K5 (windows) or K7 relay (blower motor controls)
                          3. Plug the ends into the slots where relay terminals 30 and 87 would go (look underneath the relay for reference.
                          4. This will power up either windows/heat without having the key turned in ignition.

If still not working, go back to the ground issue.

                          1. Unplug engine harness at c101.
                          2. Test continuity between your c101, pin 15 (body side) and terminal 85 in relay socket (either k5 or k7)

                          if checks out ok:

                          1. Plug c101 back into engine harness
                          2. Test continuity from terminal 30h on starter (smallest lug) to terminal 85 in relay socket

if checks out ok, your starter isn't grounding internally.

                          1. Run an external wire, about the same gauge at the wire at 30h from terminal 30h on the starter (smallest) to the larger lug that has the braided ground wire.

                          See attachment (pink line)

Hope this helps, i went through the same thing because my starter wasn't grounding correctly internally through 'new' rebuilt starters. My solution was to ground it externally like the picture, and still have the unloader functionality when starting the car.

A+ post my friend, you receive 1 free internet hug. Going to try this all out tomorrow, I didn't drive my E30 today because it was 90* outside and the windows can't roll down..terrible stuff!
