    Weird fault code...Need Help

    ***Finally fixed! easy fix too!***

So after I've had the head fixed and the car is running great but Ive been getting this fault code over and over.

    car has 95 S50
    Used to be an automatic
I get the Vehicle speed signal or Road sensor input error code.

my speedometer works fine and I checked the plug in the diff.

Is there a plug on the intake manifold or cylinder head that I am missing/forgot to plug in? I hope you guys can help me.

    Thanks in advance

Is there a speed signal going to the ECU?

your VSS is probably not connected properly

Would removing the head affect the wiring? I mean they removed the wiring harness cover to remove the head but do you think that it could have jostled something around to disconnect the wires?

No it's something that needs to be connected where the engine harness meets the chassis harness. The VSS is important to make the engine run best.

So I pulled the adapter and saw some oxidizing on the pin 14 which I think is the VSS pin so I put some electrical connector grease so hopefully It solves the problem for now at least

So my remedy didn't fix it.

Do you guys think the mechanic must have messed up the wiring harness adapter while removing and reinstalling the intake manifold?

I might have to remove the intake manifold and trouble shoot...argh

well if it's corroded you need to clean the contacts or perhaps replace the pins. dielectric grease isn't going to fix it as it's non conductive anyway.

                  what adapter is it btw?

there is nothing in the intake manifold that has anything to do with VSS. it's a straight shot from the C101 connector to the ECU.

im thinking that the tugging on the wires to get them out of the way may have caused the problem as this issue only started after the head repair job...

                    It's an M50 x20 adapter

                    1. I dont have any problems with my speedometer or tach...could it be a bad but not severed connection?

                    2. How does having this check engine light affect the cars performance?

I meant who made the adapter :p

the speedo gets it's signal right from the diff, then it's passed on to the ECU. your speedo working doesn't mean anything, excep that it's not the diff sensor. the tach is another wire altogether and is unrelated.

I'm not sure on specifics but it usually puts it into some form of limp mode, some people report poor performance.

a friend of mine made the adapter and its sits tight up against the intake manifold

yes, he is right as I have mine hooked directly into pin 42 on my red 413. I ran a new connector/wire from the spare pin of the green plug of the cluster to pin 42.
