    Can I make my m50 a 2.8?

    I have an m50 that I have built aready but I wish I had known alittle more about the engine before I went of spending a bunch of money. My question is this. Is there anyway to make my 2.5 m50 a 2.8 or any bigger then a 2.5 for that matter by just changing out the crank. I have hardened rods, and forged 8:1 pistons and the whole head reworked with a 5 angle valve job I just wouldn't mind increasing the displacement if I could do it with just a crank swap.

    Thoughts and advice please?

    No. Minimum you have to use 2.8L crank and 2.8L rods with those pistons that you have now. You will get 2.8L but compression will increase at least to 9:1

      I see. I don't know which one will make a better ride the 2.5 or the 2.8. I know that the 2.8 will have more torque but will that just translate to more wheelspin when I am going to be boosting 25psi on 50/50 water meth? Which engine would be better and why the 2.8 m50 or a 2.5 m50?

        if your engine is already built and you are boosting, I wouldn't worry about it. there's not a huge difference in .3l of displacement.

          Is It bad that the engines not even in the car yet and i'm aready trying to predict what kind of times it will put down on the strip.. I have already spent enough money and should prob just be happy, though I wouldn't mind joining the 10 second club just once so I could say I did it :)

            Bigger is always better. If you build a nice 2.5L then you do good at the track, then someone beats you for just a tenth of a second, then you would be sorry that you just didn't spend that extra time and money on making it 2.8L. Thats how it goes in 1/4 racing.
            .3L doesn't sound much on NA motor but when boosted that is significant power increase.
            You should be injecting pure water only because 50/50 water meth mix will oxygenate the fuel and make it leaner and that is not good. One negative thing about water injection is that decreases the kinetic energy, it will rob power for the benefit of reducing knock. But with VP117($12 a gallon) racing fuel you won't have to worry about knock and it works much better than water injection.

                lol I don't get it. That would be the other good thing about running 50/50 though. that I would burn like 110 and clean the engine, and prevent knock all at the same time. I have rc 1000cc injectors so they won't be maxed out anytime soon either.

                  Serious 1/4 mile racers will build extra fuel(cell) tank where they run racing fuel when they go to the track, and switch back to stock tank when driving on the street.
                  Other important factors related to a fuel's ability to make power and resist preignition are including BURNING SPEED, ENERGY VALUE and COOLING EFFECT. and VP117 has all of those factors.
                  With water injection you will have too slow burning speed, too low of kinetic energy value but it will cool the combustion down.

                        Guys in Sweden with turboed M50 engines that make 400hp are in the 10 second range.
                        Power is not problem, it is the off line start and gearing, proper suspension, long wall bias drag tires. I don't know what transmission guys in Sweden are running but I wouldn't be surprised if it is an automatic.

                            I have ground control coilovers with a 600 spring rate
                            and I have a zf e36 m3 trans and I am going to be running a 2.93 diff.
                            I might run a 4.10 at the strip though
