What is not clear to me is why the head didn't get tapped when it was off the motor before it ever went into the car! Oh well, some guys take this serious, some just don't. I wish I had been there during the build, I would have caught that...
if the motor is assembled and from a running vehicle, there is no reason to tap the head and risk getting scrap in the cooling system.you can flush it out, but thats annoying.

My S52 swap engine happened to have a 3rd factory port on the head with a plug installed that allowed me to plug and play the rear ward coolant sensor but not all S52's have this.

    to further complexicate things:

M50 non vanos and obd1 vanos engines have ports in the head already

SOME m52 and SOME s52 have ports in the head already from the factory with a plug.

many m52 and many s52 do NOT have a second coolant temp port in the head from the factory, and this re-configured sensor would be a plug and play solution if the installer wants to re-route or delete the throttle warmer setup.

I did this on my own and I gotta say - it makes for an accurate and a very responsive sensor. Do this if you want a good 2nd temp gauge.

This is a great idea! I wish this would've been available as I JUST bought and installed my in line coolant adapter from Zionsville.

Also it should be noted that the second pic is of an OBD1 head, not an OBDII head. (unless of course its an early OBDII car, in which case you wouldn't need this to begin with)
On an OBDII car this would be inserted into the third hole in place of the throttle body coolant hose fitting.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

My obd2 head only had 2 holes , the first one, where the ecu temp sensor was mounted and the second for the throttle body heater?

Go back and reread your post. You say in your next to last sentence "on an ond2 car this would be inserted in the 3rd hole. Think you just mistyped. Pretty sure you know what you are saying because in the previous post you got it right.

I see now, my post was a bit ambiguous, i was referring to the third hole in the picture.

ahhhhhhh I think that 3rd hole in the picture is actually for the bracket that holds the wiring harness not the nipple for the TB coolant. That 4 prong temp sensor should give the OBD2 head away.

this is the plug; if you have this you don't need the awesome temp sensor because your S52 has 888 in the vin. For the un-lucky's please support dave!
