FWIW, I have a vibrant muffler and resonator 2.5" all the way back, and the muffler is 3"

it was like 150ish if i remember right for the 2 pieces and like 325$ for exhaust work

      Please leave feedback below, thanks

Yep, definitely going with the Vibrant after hearing the clip of Chris's car, and hearing them in person on Justin and Darin's cars.

I began the movement to Vibrant long ago.

I like the flowmaster and magnaflow y-pipes available on Jeg's:

I don't know about the flowmaster y-pipe but the inlet spacing on the magnaflow part is way to far apart to build something that fits decent, also its a really bulky part as well (creates a problem trying to get the exhaust tuckedup nice an tight). If you're going to build any type of y-pipe setup go through cone engineering / megs exhaust:

these are way easier to fab a y-pipe with and get to fit right...

The guys at the shop I'm taking it to said that they already have several sizes of Y pipe, and if not, will have no problem fabbing up a proper Y pipe for the spacing on the Magnaflow.

I agree about the Magnaflow, I used the Flowmaster on my swap car and it fit fine.

Yeah, I don't want anything that is going to cause clearance issues. That's one of the things on my list when I take it in that I'm going to make very clear, I want it as tight up against the underside of the car as possible.

yeah avoid the magna flow piece then, its actually thicker in cross section than a 2.5" pipe would be. I bought one of those when I first was building my exhaust and ended up cutting it down a bunch to try and make it work and I sitll didn't like how it fit. I ended up finding the meg's exhaust link above and their 2 into 1 y-pipe was much easier to work with, the cross section is the same as a 2.5" pipe and the overall length is around 6" so it gives you plenty of room (even with long tubes, I'm running SuperSprint reps) to make or weld in the bend towards the center of the chassis and fit in a cat/resonator under the drive shaft before you have to make the next bend to clear the diff and go up to tuck the muffler in to the factory location

So I got the car back yesterday, and while the work is VERY good, it's still super-loud. I didn't have time/cash to order the Vibrant and have it get here in time, so I just picked up a single in/dual out Flowmaster for cheap, so he'd have at least something to put under there. It sounds good, it's just way too damn loud, and has a really rice-sounding rasp at about 2500-3k. Would having a resonator put in take care of the loudness and the rasp, or do I just need a better quality muffler?

Well if you're wanting to add to it now, why not order a vibrant resonator? Install it, see if it makes a difference towards your liking, and if not, get rid of the flowmaster and replace it with what you wanted. If any of the bends are kinked too much or whatever, that might make a difference too.

So looking under there, there's not really any room for a resonator at all. So what are my options for quieting this thing down?

Setup is as follows: Ebay headers -> dual 2" pipes into a dual in/dual out Magnaflow 11378 muffler -> Y pipe -> Single 3" pipe -> Single 3" inlet/dual outlet Flowmaster.

Should I look at replacing the first Magnaflow with actual cats or with twin resonators, or replacing the Flowmaster with a better muffler meant for this application, like the Vibrant I originally intended to get?

Right now I'm wondering if I do side-by-side resonators in place of the small Magnaflow I have in place of the cats, if that would quiet it down some. Vibrant has 14" bottle-style resonators for $48 each, I would think that 2 of them would help a lot, would it not?

                                Dynomax Super Turbo.

Here is my personal experience on my 3.7 liter M30 E30 with BAS headers, cat, 2.5 pipe all the way back to the muffler. I did not try the Super Turbo on this car, but have used them several times on other vehicles so i know what they do.

Flowmaster: Very loud, not much quieter than straight pipe.

Magnaflow oval 14": One step quieter than flowmaster, still Loud.

Borla: A couple steps quieter than magnaflow, noticeably quieter at idle.

Dynomax Super Turbo will be a couple steps quieter than borla, Idle relatively quiet but deep, but will make some noise especially when the engine on the cam.
