Something's not right... or so I think

First off, id like to apologize for all the questions. Finally getting around to throwing my m50 in (i've been waiting for 4 months!!!) and it's the first of any motor swaps i've done.

Today I threw in the m50, using the e28 green motor mounts, and after lining everything up and bolting it in place I notice the mount is flexed to one side. Not really sure if thats how they normally sit with the m50's in there... Is this going to be a problem? I dont see how or why it sits this way.

The motor doesn't look too off or anything...

Thanks, and once again... sorry for all the questions.

Rubber motor mounts are designed to flex so I dont see any problem with the way they sitting. Did you have to space the other side for clearence?

I was thinking the same, but I just felt that was a little excessive. Hopefully it'll be fine..

And no, the other side cleared just fine. The driver side was the only one giving me problems, but we managed to get it in there.

Looking good. No plans to repaint the bay? I think I'm going to go this route

Color matched automotive paint in a can! The PO who did the old swap never cleaned the bay and it's always bothered me

If you are using those mounts, most people choose to slot the mounting hole on the subframe to allow them to sit out further, and shave off 1/4" of the mount to clear the rail. With them tightened down like that, you will have premature failure, and will have to replace them sooner than later.

Uhh, that is not normal at all.

Are they new mounts? You have the e36 engine mount arms installed?

Lol no I just degreased as much of thr bay that I possibly could. Its not tooo bad, but the flash brought out the crap that's caked in the paint.

Is that the only way to customize them? :/ to be entirely honest shaving down the mount sounds a little shifty to me. Dammit, if the shit wasn't tilted as much it would've dropped in without a problem

Yeah, they're new mounts, and those ARE e36 motor arms. This makes no sense.

FWIW, I lifted the motor multiple times in different places to try and remount both of the mounts, but the Pax side always fit good and the Driver side ends up like that. You would think that they both flex the same amount

Shave them down, then fill the rest of the mount with silicone if you're worried it won't be strong enough

the mounts on my m52 are also skewed, but the rubber is pulling toward the inside, not outside like yours. Im using the e28 black mounts with the turner subframe reinforcement kit

Hmmm... Is it as skewed as mine? How many miles do you have on it?

I will look and see if I do. I know it was the original way to do it with the 'Project ORCA' files from Zionsville.

Sweet! That would be cool. I'd like to resolve the issue while the mount is still somewhat exposed..

there are 2 holes in the subframe on each side, one for the bolt, and one for the little rotation lock tab... you have them backwards(they are supposed to be reversed from how the M20 was to better fit the M50)

looks like you have them both backwards by how much its out

mine sit perfectly straight and normal

Oh lol... Soo I do NOT put the rotation lock tab thingy in the normal spot? If I turn them around, wouldnt the tab make contact with the subframe or will it clear it?

I'll have to try this out lol. Thanks!!
