s52 internals in an m52 Alloy block?

Is this a possible way to create an alloy block s52?
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

I would imagine new sleeves are required.

When you say S52 internals what you mean? You could use the S52 crank for more stroke but the bigger pistons would require a resleeve

You can use the s52 rotating assembly and just bore and hone the block to size. You do not need to resleeve the block. However the aluminum blocks thread holes for the head strip so you would have to timesert the block which isnt cheap and the weight difference doesnt seem to be worth it.

IIRC the Alum M52 (NON TU) is sleeved.

do you know what the actual weight savings would be? or are you asking for another reason.

I have not weighted them myself, but have carried a naked ALU shorty and a naked steel deck, the alu is ~40 lbs lighter feeling, a scale would show the truth.

I guess if you have the parts already to assemble, cool. But all that work to save 40 pounds...i'd look into brakes first. I'd definitely follow the build with interest. There's tons of Alu blocks in germany....but alas, expensive to ship.

                  Cool!

There's a ton of iron in an s52 block. And 40lbs off the nose is a lot, that's the same as getting a fiberglass hood and loosing air conditioning and power steering.

So would you have to get custom pistons or could you just run the s52 crank and rods with the m52 pistons?

                      bore of S52 is biGGOR.

if you want small bore to fit the existing ALU block, the trick is M54b30 rotating assembly for 3000cc result. its a small bore s52.

40 lbs on or off nose is ok, just think about the weight and weird bias adding a turbo+FMIC+oil cooler adds!!

M52 alloy block with S52 internals is what we call an M54.
