I know its been covered over and over again but I am just looking for a simple answer. I bought a 16" spal fan I want it wired up to the high speed and not even bother with the a/c button. So I have it grounded and connected to the blk/grn wire and when ever the ignition is turned its on even if it's not hot. How do I fix this so it just turns on when it gets hot?

you use the temp switch on the pass side of the radiator. the one that sticks out horizontally. No more e30s for me.

Yep, you've got it wired to constant power right now, you want it wired in with the temp switch so it doesn't come on until it reaches a certain temp.
I have the same one wired that way, but we're actually going to run a wire into the car with an LED so I know when it comes on, and also a switch so I can turn it on manually if I need to.

Dual temp switch in the radiator is the logical choice especially if there's no aux fan."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

here's a diagram of aux fan wire.
