    M50B25 E30 help

Hey all, so have decided to swap an m50 into my 1990 318i. Which is m40 powered (slow :()

Anyways. I have been doing alot of research and just wanted to clear a few things up. Have i missed anything out of this list of parts?

    -M50B25 NV
-Using getrag 240 out of 318.
    -E36 engine arms
-E34 sump, oil pickup, dipstick tube and dipstick.
    -E28 m5 mounts
    -Wiring adapter and e36 loom.
-M40 radiator (same as m42 one)
-M20 shaved 1/8th flywheel, m20 clutch and starter.
    -Ebay ss headers
    -E30 csb with e36 325 driveshaft.

    1. Electric fan (how easy to set up?)
    2. What is the ideal diff to use? primarily for good acceleration but not too noisy.
    3. I am told i need to use the e36 325 driveshaft with the e30 240? why can't i just use my e30 driveshaft?
    4. Which brake booster to use? one that requires the least amount of modifying but boosts well preferably.
    Cheers guys.

Which is the e30, i have read i can use my e30 getrag 240 and diff but i need the e36 325 driveshaft. Im confused because people say i need the 325 driveshaft cause its shorter. If this is the case then the transmission will be farther back, but in the same source and on multiple other places it says i can use the stock transmission mounts as well as the tranny subframe. So im confused about that.

Yes you will need the e36 driveshaft.

The stock 318i shaft will be a few inches too long.

Ok thanks, Im still confused as to why. If i need a shorter one then obviously the transmission has to move backward. How does it mount if it has to move back?

Edit just looked and found out the mounts slide back and forth so that clears up my issue.

#4 The E21 brake booster is probably the easiest to modify. I went ahead and bought a pre-modded booster from Zionsville motorsports for $249.00.

If that's insufficient boost, add this...

You'll need the ECU, as well...

Is there anywhere else you can get something like this? i am in New Zealand which is quite a bit further away from us and would prefer to get it locally done. thanks for links.

Haha good to see you've come to the r3v side. Those idiots on bimmerforums just didn't get it that an m50 swap is so much better than keeping the 4 cylinder.
Another $0 alternative for the brake booster slot it across so it can clear the manifold. Many guys go down this route for this swap.
Here is a quote from the e30tech writeup
                You have a few options:
*BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK* Relocate the stock booster over about 1/2 inch. You need to either re-drill the holes that the booster mount in or slot the holes. When you look at the front of the car, you want to go the the right (obviously). Open up the big hole between the 4 holes. Rebend the hard lines as needed.

Hmmm yeah i have read that but thought that was only for the 320/5i? or do they all have the same boosters?

-The E30 Ix is a direct bolt up and will give the most boost. (dual canister). I used an e32 booster and it works great.

-http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DAC-71901/ This hose will make the two hoses you need for the 4cyl radiator.

They should be all be the same. As far as I know the only differences between a 318i and a 325i are the engine, driveline, and front struts. Stuff like brakes are all the same. You'll find more differences between early and late model e30s than a 318i and 325i of the same year.
Obviously the iX models have different boosters. But they're almost a completely different car in an e30 shell. Nothing you have to worry about anyway since we didn't get iX models on our side of the earth.

Ah thanks guys, @DTFE30 is that the only hose i need for the radiator? im assuming its a perfect fit after i cut it in half? thanks.

Also when i take out my old engine should i take out the transmission aswell? do i NEED to change to the getrag 260 shifter linkages or can i use my getrag240 shifter linkages with the new engine?

the engine will rotate the transmission ~12*, you will need to make/buy a custom transmission mount, and also the shifter.

You'll probably have to use the g260 linkages. The g240 shifter might be too long because the gearbox is usually set more forward in the transmission tunnel than the g260.
However once the longer m50 goes in the g240 will have to go back and that's when you use the shorter g260 shifter rod
