    Cams and a chip

Im lookin to put some cams and a chip in my m50nv. What kind of chip and cams would you recommend and what would do you think I should do first? My ultimate goal is to boost it.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Cammed Non-Vanos motors weren't really looked into, because the Vanos motors came in shortly after. Wait until you boost your car, then simply run another NV intake cam as the exhaust cam, for a "hot cam" set-up.

Don't waste your money on cams for now.

Yeah but I dont want to boost my car without doing all the internals. I talked to my mechanic and he said that I should just send my cams to just get machined.

If you want a custom cam grind, you need to do your research first. You want to base you cam profiles on either a supercharger, or the turbocharger you choose. The cheap "hot cam" set-up is using dual intake cams, as the intake cam lift and duration is more aggressive then the factory exhaust cam. If you plan to turbo your car, then cams should always come last, as the extra money is better spent on an even better turbo choice.

          Re-grinding cams are cheap

I know it is, but a custom dyno tune is not. :p

I don't think there is anyone that makes an off the shelf tune for a cammed m50 non-Vanos. If the OP plans on going megasquirt for boost, then he could get the hang of it and tune it for NA with less headaches first. Megasquirt is fine for tuning a non-vanos turbo set-up. Not as great for a Vanos motor.

why not? single vanos is just on/off. MS is more than capable of doing that.

I know Megasaquirt can handle it, but when you add boost to the mix, 95% of tuners don't know how to make the engagement nearly as smooth as the factory DME. That's why all the guys that run the better AEM stand alone done by Maximum Psi, end up going back to a blow-through set-up on the factory DME. MAF + factory DME on Vanos motors is going to be a better street/track set-up over Megasquirt, no questions asked.

Also, the Vanos is working all the time, it's not on and off like V-TEC. Most people don't want an "On/Off" with Vanos when boost starts coming on strong.

Single vanos IS just an on-off thing.

On a non-vanos whatever the latest flavor of MS is would be fine.
