Who makes the 24V coding plugs?

Huh? The coding plug tells the cluster what motor the car has in it. The cluster feeds that info to the obc. It takes the gauge level and calculates it into range etc. What I am talking about is a modified coding plug that is programmed with the correct algorithm for the 3.2L 24V. Slips right into the orig code plug casing or has a plug with ribbon cable what ev. Most clusters in BMW's have coding plugs in them. I am curious about just snatching one from a 95 M3 cluster since OBD2 stopped doing coding plugs and this would be the closest parameters to my engine. On my Z3 I had to swap clusters to correct the tach and the OBC corrected itself..... and it's days of displaying avg mpg 32 were gone. -
Want to clear up some confusion then? Where is the best place to wire this in? Does it correct for the obc and mpg gauge or just the mpg?Leave a comment:

When you guys say coding plug replacement, you do realize that is a terrible idea.
This modifies the fuel rate output of the DME , you do not have to splice into an injector. The only purpose of the fuel rate output is to run the OBC and MPG gauge. That won't cause problems on a turbo setup.
Your car has two coding plugs, so double the cost.
Don't forget the fun you'll have calibrating two separate modules to match, let alone the fact you have to pull the dash and OBC to do it.
Ignoring the MPG gauge costs $0 and is a much more cost effective solution.Leave a comment:

I would really prefer to have a coding plug replacement as well. I'm not terribly fond of hacking into my wiring.Leave a comment:

if you're not willing to splice into the injector signal then it's not going to be possible to do this. that's really the only way to put it.I'm down for a coding plug replacement module, but not the cut and splice.
For me, I am going to be running 7-10psi of boost and for one of my injectors to lose pulse because of a splice and a screw sunk connection that is not ideal for vibrating rigid assembly's. I'm in deep shit.
I prefer to have as little splices in my injection harness as possible.
Great idea, has excellent potential, not a good value IMO <<-- That's mine, you can have your own it's totally cool.

there are ways to splice into the injector harness properly. If you're going to use butt-splices, vamp-clamps, solder, or wire nuts, I can see the concern..Leave a comment:

Some observations:
I went to the grocery store yesterday and a pint of blueberries was $6.00. Everyone knows you can pick those yourself for FREE!
It's been really interesting selling these the last several years, because so many of my orders have started coming from overseas. Australia, England, Norway, South Africa, Sweden.. what is it with Scandinavians and amazing car projects? Probably 7/10 ship with customs forms.
These aren't rocket science, anyone with some EE and CS skills could do it, but I probably have at least 200-300 hours sunk in perfecting the code, designing the board and making revisions. Not to mention thousands $$ in Oscilloscope, signal generators, power supplies, ICSP programmers, etc. It wasn't as easy as the Hall to VR, which is just a discrete circuit with an OpAmp and a charge pump. It needs to work reliably and accurately in a hot and electrically noisy engine bay. Even the overrun fuel cut had to be dealt with.
Like Nando said, the biggest cost on these for me is the time. Between ordering components, assembling, testing and shipping it takes a lot of time. 2 years later I still test and return units on request. I haven't been whoring the posts to sell them because people that are anal enough to want their swap working 100% after so much hard work are finding me.
The little bit of money left over invariably goes back into buying new parts for researching a new project. M54 swap done and documented, thanks for you support!Leave a comment:

if it's so easy to make, why don't you make one yourself? I'm all about sharing info but it's also hard to sell anything here (and why bother putting the effort in?). Want to know how to add MPH input into your wiper system on the E30? I could tell you but I spent so many hours figuring it out, and it's too expensive to sell. So I leave others to figure it out.
Making these by hand, one at a time, and testing them, is very time consuming. Steve is a big boy with real job and a family. if you're a 19 year old kid you can afford to waste 3 hours of time to make $10, but for somebody like steve or myself, it's a total waste of time. There's a lot of things I could do that I like to do, but I don't because the time involved is not worth the return.
I'm not even a programmer but I understand what the thing is doing. I could *probably* come up with something myself if I really wanted to. Why bother when a simple module plugs in and works perfectly?
making it PNP isn't really possible, it needs a signal from one of the injectors (you *have* to splice that in somewhere, it doesn't pass through the C101 or something). I have mine tucked behind the M3 harness cover.
Steve, I still don't understand the difference between the "standalone" and regular version? Oh, and check this out - going from batch fire to sequential didn't require any settings changes. same # of pulses per rpm, same exact output. :)Leave a comment:

I think the public needs to here this.
Dude.......Originally posted by george gravesHonestly...
I know where you are coming from....but I would love to talk.
This guy spent 40 hours....maybe 100...and designed something that he'll sell 20, 30? Maybe if he's lucky 100 of...And you want to bust his balls over the price?
Really?
I'm not a mod, I'm not going to ban you....but ...damn....way to go to keep guy like him from making more things...
I'm not going to ride your ass...or anything...just I'm astounded...
It's a simple chip and analog dial switch that modifies a signal, for any of us comp sci. majors it's just a few hours in the lab running solder. I HIGHLY doubt dude put half the hours into this as he did the hall to VR signal converter for M54 swaps he sells all day everyday for $60 shipped. Why he is giggin for $90 on this thing IDK.
I am all about making a buck, but fuckin price gouging is price gouging, and as far as I'm concerned, This is a hate crime, R3V on R3V robbery. And it's total bullshit and anything but community. If Fred,Ryan Stew, nando Robert K, iflytii and myself all didnt share info back in 04-05 there wouldn;t be half as many swaps out there today. I bought the treehouse adapter to dissect so we could start making our own in 06 the right way. I published all my charts, and when I came to a problem, I posted how I solved it. I told people were to get hoses clamped for $20 each not try to middle man and sell them for 200% mark up like some assholes. That attitude is plain shitty and greedy, there is no honor in that.Leave a comment:

I think I'll buy one...well worth it. Nice product...and the maker stand behind it. I like that.Last edited by george graves; 09-19-2011, 01:04 AM.Leave a comment:

Ok, I looked at my inventory and I have enough for 10 without ordering another batch of circuit cards from Taiwan (which takes a while).
I will ship for $65 if I can get 10 commitments. Reply with your name and which version you would like. standalone or standard.
Standalone is functionally identical to the standard version, except that the pulse width correction is optimized for reading the signal directly off a coil. The standard version pulls the signal from the ECU which has already done some processing. If one doesn't work for you, we can easily swap out.
As always, if you find that it doesn't work, send it back for a refund. I've never had one not work and these have been installed on everything from Porche's (supercharged Boxter) to Audis and BMW's.

I'd be down for one. Not sure I'm familiar with the difference between the models though?Leave a comment:
