running my e36M on slicks for trackwork (14 events) on prepped footwork (basic performance upgrade "BPU" e36m street car, non caged) I never starved the stock S52 for oil. If there was starvation issue would not have lasted otherwise, I normal pedestrian S52 oil pan. No issues at laguna, infineon, button-willow, in the mountains and wangan-ing around the bay.

I seriously doubt the average swapped e30 would be able to pull the G's of my non-stock + slicks e36M. If the e30 is a fully caged, all pillow ball full racing Trailer ONLY race car with 275mm R comps's all 4 corners then perhaps....perhaps not. e36 chassis is quite a bit stiffer and will hold more G's, have not seen any e36m's shoot rods out the block on track yet!
            OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

Hmm. I did that all the time on nearly dead Hankooks and H&R Sports in my E36. I grant that they don't tend to throw rods due to starvation, but the valvetrain makes interesting noises.

Perhaps I'm lucky or I just plain suck on track? Never had metal in my oil, nor was my cams/trays destroyed when removed.

The bmw I6 HLA's do make a particularly funny noise when hott

Theres a subaru trick for simple sumps; run 1 extra quart of oil. done it for years with out issues

better too much oil in sump than rod-> out block

Im in the process of cutting a e34 pan down about an inch. Give a little more clearance. Dont flame me, i understand the lower oil capacity and other small issues with this.
