Swapped cam sensors, no dice. Apparently you cannot OHM the VANOS crank sensors.

The backfiring thing is what gets me.
You tried the "brake cleaner" test yet?
Not spraying carb cleaner around the engine but rather have someone spray some carb cleaner, WD40, or brake cleaner directly into the intake while you crank the engine.
If it fires up for a second you have fuel delivery problems.Comment

It sounds like the problem i was having. Turned out I didnt align the Crank wheel on the alignment pin so it was off causing backfiring and sputtering but no start.Comment

One of my buddies that was helping me grabbed the NON-Vanos crank pulley / trigger wheel. Which is way, way different from the S50 wheel.
*facepalm*
Swapped it over... runs like a boss!Comment
