    E36 Diagnostic port

One of my friends with an OBD1 M52 is trying to read a code but the diagnostic port does not seem to have power. I am talking about the round one, that is on the e36 wire harness. I could swear that I had read here one time that it needs a power source. Does anyone have an idea on that.

He has the wire adapter from Gregslow if that makes a difference.

    TIA

If wired properly they work just fine.
