    FYI.....lifter tick, valve noise????

Common to many s50's.......especially if thrashed/ tracked.....

    Bad lifter/ vanos/ kissed a valve????........consumed w/ worry?

Take a deep breath and take off your valve cover plastic shroud, undo each of the coil packs, and check for loose spark plugs, it's very common on these engines.

If you are lucky, you will hear the sound of a purring engine when you are done.......

    Good luck.

              interesting!

I'll check this out soon, my e30 was ticking like crazy after its first auto-x this weekend and I even have baffles in my oil pan (which helped my e46 to not tick as much)

This did not work for me. Mine seems to be a low oil pressure issue at idle. Bummer.

I'm not sure. I've been meaning to get a gauge and check it. It's far more predominate in the warmer months. It comes and goes. If I hear it starting to tick at a light or something I can rev it to around 1k or so and it goes away. I've ran seafoam, ATF and other various cleaning agents and it hasn't seemed to help. I suspect it's either a failing oil pump or a clogged passage at this point. This is in my E34 DD btw. I use Castrol 20w-50. Recently tried Rotella 10w-40 and it was noticeably more frequent.
