24v stroker?

A buddy of mine has a 3.1L stroker in his e36, and my car with an S52 is quite a bit faster. I'd say just get an S52, slight refresh, and be done with it. As someone else mentioned, the torque just isn't there. The car was just lethargic until about 4k, and even up top seemed to be lacking a little.88 325is - S52 powered

I paid $1600 for my s52, albeit it isn't freshly overhauled I don't think you'll be under that on your build. Add to your bill a tune specifically for your motor and I can't see you being under $2500.
Now I am going to spend more money and rebuild motor. With rings, bearings, seals, gaskets etc... But I didn't have to.
So that is why I chose to go the way I did instead of buying a s52
Because u got a hell of a deal at 1600 most of the time they are going for 2500 bucks, and that's before u buy your oil pan, harness rewire/adapter, obd1 parts/tune, trans bracket, motor mounts etc.....

Well prices for s52's are going down these days so keep your eyes open and you never know what you'll get. My engine came with 85k miles, eurosport underdrive pullies and stewart waterpump for that price.
If you are going to complete the swap properly it's going to cost you more than $1400 my friend. It's the little things that add up believe me every little item ends up adding up to a lot.
Clutch/fly is Gunna run you $350-900 depending on what you run. Stock m20 single mass and m20 fly may suffice but a good aluminum 240mm lw fly and e36m 240mm clutch is Gunna hold better and longer.
I mean don't get me wrong, good on ya for getting deals where you can but as things start adding up you will be surprised.
Do you have your intake and maf purchased already?
Fuel rail, fpr and injectors purchased?
I hope your engine came with coils, sensors, accessories etc. I would recommend replacing serp drive pullies and tensioner now too not to mention the belt.
And of course you have normal wear items such as plugs, thermostat, waterpump, fluids. Ideally you should replace as many sensors as you can afford to but at the very least use a new O2 sensor and CPS.
