    Props for perseverance!
    let me rephrase that.

    It's impossible to do it with the proper tools and trans installed in the car. You may be able to improvise sockets and this or that for the plug punch tools. But the punches are a good 4" long and no way will slip in the holes with the trans installed. Not to mention the easiest way to pull the caps out is to drill a hole in them and pull out, hard to drill inside a 1" gap with a drill at best 11" long....

      UPDATE on this thread....

      I sent my ZF tranny to a specialist. He recommended not to fix the tranny. So I decided to buy another ZF. Took the "new" tranny to my mechanics, they all looked at the transmission and told me that it seemed to be in very good shape.

      But. They added auto transmission fluid and before mounting it in my car they were trying it out. Apparently the tranny is stuck in 1st. They told me that maybe if the fluid set in the transmission for awhile it might fix the problem.

      Is this normal? Is there anything else I can do? Should i get another tranmission?

      thanks to those who could have some insight into the problem.
