    N52 inlet manifold on M50/52

    Hey guys,

As the title of the thread suggests - has anyone tried this before?

Before some of you shoot down this idea as some sort of idealistic BS, please refer to the photo below.

I've attached a photo of the N52 inlet manifold and it appears as though the bolt holes for the manifold are in the same pattern that appears on our engines.

I know the M50 engines use a 91mm cylinder spacing but have not been able to find out any information on what the N52's spacing is - if it is the same or very close perhaps this might bolt onto our engines?

    Cheers.

Can you easily remove the DISA stuff or is it part of the manifold that can't be removed?

As far as it bolting up i'm doubtful, but even if it did, the intake ports are different shapes.

Appearing to have and actually having are two totally different things...

The manifold that is attached to the 325i/328i versions of this engine actually do not have DISA, its only the 330i ones that do.

After doing some more research it appears that the ports are slightly different shapes - the M50/M52 cylinder head inlet holes are more oval-like and appear to be wider whereas these appear to be more circular, taller and narrower - even if it did fit it would require an adapter plate.

You would need an adapter plate, although the spacing is the same. Port shape is completely different and there's even a separate passage per cylinder for crankcase blow-by.

Don't know why you would want to get ride of DISA; it works like magic!

Its a cost cutting measure by BMW - only the high output versions the N52 have DISA - the 325i and 328i actually don't have it.

The 330i has it and it is 3-stage unlike the M54's dual stage - very cool tech!

Its actually actuated with an electric motor instead of being vacuum fed!
