    I can't find a S50 with less then 100,000

Where did you all locate your motors?

    #2
Well, you gotta realize, these motors are 10 years old already. To me, 100,000 is pretty low mileage. I mean, I put 30,000 a year on my daily driver. To find one with 70,000 (which would be a good find), is pretty hard. To me, a 10 year old motor should be rebuilt if it's out of the car anyway.

    just my $0.02

100k isnt all that bad if it has records. look at the m20's we thrash with 200k. still, if you hold out youll find a low mileage motor if youre willing to wait. why not go s52? easier to find a 50k mile motor and displacement, mmmm

Higher initial cost, then you have to convert it to OBDI. That adds ~$1K to the swap.

*Edit: typo fixed. thanks TJ. I guess I'm still feeling all those beers and jager bombs from last night.

I know it was only a typo and you know what you are talking about, but just for clarity's sake, you have to convert to OBD-I.

screw the whole swap, I'm currently looking for a s52 then i'll convert it to OBD-I but i'm also going to go turbo with it also.

rule 1- when doing an M3 motor swap, if done right IS NOT CHEAP!

rule 2- If your not going to be cheap, then GO ALL OUT!!!!!

I agree but not all of us can go all out all at once. besides, ive learned its more fun to do a mod at a time and appreciate it for what it is before moving on to the next mod. i will turbo my s52 as soon as i finish my 02 build or can afford it, whichever comes first. either way i think its 2 years off

I know its a little difficult to find a motor with less then 100,000 but they are out there, where should I be looking besides Zionsville? Don't have the money for a 3.2 with obd1 swap.

Just keep your ear to the ground. Mine came up through a friend off the forums.

Im with blunt, do one mod at at time if you can. The S50 is plenty fast for a while. Wait till it starts feeling slow before you turbo. Besides, you need to invest in other things so make a chassis that can actually put down 400+hp.
                    Im now E30less.

You might as well give it a rebuild if you putting that much money in the car. Definately dont turbo the car till you can handle the NA power, which should be more than enough.

I found an s50 motor with wiring harness and accessories with 25,000 miles. Just search around on the forums, or post a WTB add.

don't worry i know what i'm doing as far as work and all but as far as not enough power just an s52 OBD-I in my opinion is slow.
yet fast about high 13's but my civic turbo can do that...... i'll start a thread soon talking about the whole project well whenever i get the motor.

anyways sorry for jacking the thread looking for an s50 there's one or two guys on bimmerforums.com selling i think one has under 100k but not sure.
just look there and other places but i may get my s52 from Bav auto recycling and i'm sure they have one or two s50's.
