Okay I went and looked, I have the fat one grounded and the little one powered. I had a 325e, so the area we are looking at is different, since my battery was in the trunk.

I am not sure of your experience level, but remember your engine ground and engine mount nuts and washers.

I don't remember too well and my friend took the liberty of doing a lot of my wiring. However, there wasn't anything from the glove box... I assume our cars are fairly similar, since mine is an 85.

To get the tach to work we had to run a wire straight to the cluster from some wire on the e36 main connector (the one you spliced with the x101). This and something else (speedo maybe) were the only wires that were dealt with inside the car.

If you switched clusters, the computer for the gauge cluster is above the glove box, you might have to change that with the one for your cluster.

I had the same thing happen when I first attempted to start my M50 swap into an '84 318i. Check your constant, battery voltage wires. Constant power comes into the E36 harness and is branched out, primarily to the relays. All the wires that have constant voltage are red, makes troubleshooting a bit easier. Referance the ETM's from wedophones and you will have detailed schematics to use. Good luck!

check the fuel lines and see if they are correct and pumping fuel.

Spray carb cleaner in intake and see if it tries to run/sputter.

thanks i'll check that. i got into it today and i have the injectors firing and coils working. fuel pump is on but i dont think that the pump is moving fuel or pressure for the motor to fire up. did u change ur factory pump to the m50 Pump?

tried jumping the fuelpump relay, its not turning the pump on. i get power to the relay but jumping pin 30 to 87 on the relay connector does nothing. jumped the pump at the pump it turns on. could my problem be in the wiring adapter?

Sounds like it could be in your adapter. Check all of the red with white stripe wires coming from the main harness to the main and fuel pump relays. They are switched 12V and without them energizing the relays, you will not get power to anything else. Check the harness to the pump as well, might have a bad connection or a poor ground to the pump.

Update: car starts and runs, no wiring issues the fuel lines where on backwards after all. LOL
