My dad's about to kick my ass - Oil Leaks

20-50 works just fine on the DOHC engines.
BUT, it looks like you have a rear main seal leak or transmission input shaft seal leak - pretty normal. output shaft and selector rod should be changed while you are at it.
ps leak and oil pan, probably front timing cover.
best idea is to plan to tear it all apart and replace as much as you can at one hit - leaks take a long time to chase down.Leave a comment:

^ not sure if seryius? On an S50?
Thanks for all the input guys. I'll try the dye and get some more pictures up soon.Leave a comment:

My dad is the same way. He makes me park on a side driveway of stone dust we made because it was ruining his precious asphault. That driveway is under a pine tree and collects sap....:(
It looks like it. When I replaced mine it was hardly there...just a small remnant of the red gasket it once was. I have ZERO oil leaks now...but that is because I changed every seal and gasket when the M20 was out of the car this past summer.Leave a comment:

Leaky power steering lines too, it appears.
Rear main seal will leak out the bellhousing and blow back on the tranny while you drive.Leave a comment:

^^ this.
A good degreasing, scrub, and power wash should help remove most of the oil on the driveway as well and keep your dad happy.
I think the plate is probably fine, I would just replace the gasket and save a few bucks.Leave a comment:

Looks like the oil level sender O ring is leaking on the oilpan, the power steering which is fairly normal for BMW and your transmission.Leave a comment:

Definitely try using degreaser to narrow down where it's leaking.
Also, try removing the flywheel cover, and check under there--it could be coming from the oil pan gasket, or rear transmisson seal.Leave a comment:

Well, as for the oil pan I think I just need to get a new plate, gasket, etc. I found this:
11131726357 cover lid - list $7.98
12611277129 gasket ring - list $2.01
And for the bolts on the transmission, it could be old ass tranny fluid I'm mistaking for oil. All I know is it's dirty as fack and leaking. I'm thinking just replace it with new crush washers and bolts.
I'm going to degrease and power wash all the bullshit off it, then see what exactly is leaking. I'm hoping it's not a bad crankshaft seal, I'm not trying to drop the transmission so soon!
Seriously dude, my dad was sooo pissed when my M20 pissed oil everywhere. I promised him this one wouldn't, so he let me park it in the garage and BAM! StainsLeave a comment:
