Oil Pan Gasket: Bruss or Victor Reinz?

So I am going to buy an oil pan gasket today for my swap, which brand is better.

    BRUSS

    or

    Victor Reinz

    Thanks for the input.

VR blows. I avoid using their gaskets as much as humanly possible.

    Go with bruss.

I have used Victor Reinz on a number of gaskets and I have not had a problem.

I am using one on my oil pan right now. No leaks, no problems, fit great!

I did not even use a gasket, I used Permatex ultra gray silicone and direct seal oil pan to engine block. 5 years now and still no leaks, works great for me.

VR works fine we use them in my shop alot, use a dab of silicone on the front and rear where the aluminum covers mate to the iron block just a precaution

Think long and hard before you take this advice. This toolbag has been pushing this advice for a while, and usually has subpar quality on his builds.....

Some people don’t know how to use silicone and just put too much and it clogs oil pickup tube. If you are stupid then use gaskets and waste money.

Notice when all is torq you can see a nice even squeezed beam of silicone, that’s when you know you got it right.

Reused old gasket, cleaned it, then put some light coat of same silicone, I don’t have to worry about this oil filter housing leaking ever.

I also have used Reinz gaskets with no ill effects, even the dreaded M20 head gaskets have given me no trouble with leakage (did 2 of them in different cars.....) Only thing I have had of theirs leak are the rocker shaft plugs on the M20, and that was due to bad installation (didnt seat them fully)

What I am getting at is that care in installation will yield better results than gasket brand. go with what is most cost effective, more available, use reasonable care in installation, and you will have a minimum of problems

              Congratulations on your shoddy skills.

I'll pass another vote of a Victor Reinz gasket user here with no problems.

Victor Reinz is the gasket of choice for me. My whole M50 was rebuilt using their stuff.

:loco: at south of the border rebuild skillzZZZZzzzZZzzzz with the RTV.

reminds me of the lexus SC300 threads of "I have a vacuuum leak and I super duper RTV'ed the intake manifold together because wasting money on gaskets is stupid". But I have tires I cannot afford to drive on that cost more than the 28" rimZZZ I rented with a stolen credit card. Paper gaskets work just fine when OEM BMW supply chain and not generic from ghettozone auto supply.

VR oil pan gasket/head gasket is happy. Have ran on S52 and M20 with no regrets.

VR half moons may be undersized - at least the ones I got with my VR bottom end gasket kit set. Glue them in with a little bit of rtv. NOT LAYERS.

Funny that everybody seems to like victor reinz when bruss is supposedly the supplier for factory oil pan gaskets.

I am indifferent but want to avoid replacing the oil pan gasket on an m50 as I am sure I would have to remove the engine again to do so.

Thanks for all the input. Probably use Victor Reinz

most of the VR gaskets are OK. avoid their M20 headgaskets like the plague, though.
