    Right motor mounts?

    ?

    #2
I'd go with one of these IMO. More expensive, but much better quality. I went with the solid aluminum ones. My $.02

The ORIGINAL e30 M5x/S5x swap motor mounts! Our mounts incorporate the correct angle and stud location for proper engine seating. Made in USA.

Those are the same mounts I had in my E24... When they go, they go pretty bad. No thanks!

Never had an issue. Been running them in various cars for years...

The AKG mounts will sit the motor further back in the engine bay and lower than the E28 M5 mounts.

This is better IMO, for the heavier weight of the M/S50.

Ive used the AKG mounts (im a vendor for them) and as long as you dont do any crazy shimming of the E28 mounts they work perfect. Ive used both in customer cars...

I like the lower and farther back, but another 60 is a tad much for now. Maybe down the road!

Most people don't want their engine lower due to pan clearance.

I have used the E28 mounts on every swap I've been involved with and prefer them.

Id go with a soft mount.
Solid mounts like the AKG ones just mean broken aluminum engine arms when you big nasty bumps. If you dont catch it when it happens then you end up with broke oil pans.

for those using the e28 motor mounts, did you shim yours? I did about 1/4in drivers side and 1/2in on the passenger side to lift the oil pan and give my exhaust manifolds some clearance. I'd be interested to hear responses on how it worked out for those that didn't shim their e28 mounts and what sort of clearances you've had.

no shims and about 10-15mm clearance on headers to subframe, about 8-10 mm on booster to manifold.
