I didn't have my VSS connected at all (pin 14) so I connected it today, let the car run for about 5 minutes and nothing, no improvement in anything. I have continuity too. Perhaps I should have reset the DME?

LOL - Oh yeah, I forgot. I had a motometer and switched to the VDO. But I tried so hard to convert the original 89k mile Motometer cluster to work, but I couldn't find a 7k tach that would fit.
...Edited my previous post to say VDO.
Thanks...I feel slightly retarded now. :-P

For reference, this is the back of my 325i VDO cluster
(white plug disconnected just to get a better view)
The red thing coming off the yellow C3 plug is just my tap into the BRN/RED wire for VSS (that I hope is correct).

Mine doesn't have it either, does it somehow get the reading from the ABS sensor?

the VSS output on C3 is equivalent so it really doesn't matter.
my cluster doesn't have the green plug either, 318is here. i do know what you're talking about though, i bought a cluster a while back that came with it.

I keep hearing about this green plug on the back of the cluster, which I don't have, and everything on the back of the cluster that has a plug is plugged in.

I've got a white, yellow, and blue plug on the back.
I've got a Motometer (EDIT: VDO) cluster, maybe that's why?
    Also, my cruise is deleted.

there's no VSS "input" on C3. C3 is for the OBC only, and it's definitely a VSS output (from the cluster to the OBC). it would have been easier/simpler to just plug it into one of the spare VSS outs on the green plug block but whatever. :)

You should have the giant green snap in plug on the back of the speedo for the cruise control. Steal a signal from there. Works perfect for me everytime unless your cluster is jacked (which ive had happen)

The middle yellow plug is C3 right?
