Swap this summer.. Which one to get?

    Hey r3v,
This summer my plan is to do a swap, but not sure which one to do. I want it to be fun and fast. Not to pricey, i want to start saving up from now. thats why i'm asking this early. What do you guys think? S50,S52? or v8 swap?

s52 will require OBD1 swap or software change......I love my OBD1 swapped s52, zf 5 speed. about $3000 for low miles motor and tranny and all the goodies for the swap.

I would budget about 2k just for engine bits.

About another 2.5k in the engine.

Another 2k for transmission driveline bullshit

And about 2k in labor to put it in.

          8.5k will get you a dead reliable S52 w/ a 5 speed.

At 8.5k I think a v8 swap would be in order

              Maybe.

But 8k would get you a car that you could just drive and not have to tear apart every month.

The term "refreshed" has many different meanings.

The spreadsheet that I keep at the shop for total cost of an engine build and swap ends up between 6-8k. This is of course including the 2k in labor that I mentioned above. Parts are expensive. You can obviously do it for cheaper but why have a ? in your 3k engine build?

Im going with the s52, because I was reading that the v8 is way more difficult . And I'll be able to do this at about 2000$

need some OEM piston rings and a full set of OEM rod/crank bearings in line before any aftermarket parts.

S52 enjoys new piston rings and bearings immensly more than any MLS gasket. The big boys are actually just O-ringing and running OEM HG.
