    California Bar Questions

I have an appointment friday and I just had a few questions:

    1. Do I need to put in my red label dme or can I pass with a silver label with a delete chip?

    2. Do I need to attach my coolant reservoir somehow? I have a 318is and there is no bracket.

    3. Do I need another fan besides the stock auxilary (Fan delete and haven't hooked up my puller yet)

Motor is stock OBD-I S50, stock exhaust manifolds, stock e36 cats, and stock intake (for the test)

Any other advice let me know. Thank you and wish me luck!

    -Ian

Sounds good to me. Good luck man, I heard some refs are assholes and nit pick, I heard others are way more chill.

I don't think they'll be concerned with any of the thing you're worried about.

Sounds like you've got the important stuff taken care of, let us know how it goes.

Go to southwestern college, mike the ref there is totally cool. If you have all stock smog hooked up you should be gold. Also make sure your cats are nice and hot. Make sure you have an 88c thermostat, I failed first time because I forgot about my 80c stat when I did my swap.

Thanks kermugit, I didn't think the t-stat would keep you from passing. Thanks for informing me!

Thanks for the info. Ok so I couldnt get the stock e36 air box to fit. Now I'm running a k&n cone universal filter. I hope the guy Is cool. If not what do others do for a stock air box. Mine is hitting the abs. Also why won't I pass with an 80 degree thermostat? I have one installed with my fan delete kit.

OBD1 has the intake air temp in the intake manifold, you don't need your air box. I had a k&n filter on the end of my maf, was not a problem. Also the 80c is too cool for the engine temp and runs rich due to the dme reading lower than 190 f with 80c thermostat. I fail because of this part. My cats could not get hot enough to convert the extra HC levels from the richer running engine with the 80c thermostat.

A couple of BAR failures here was due to the dme running on warm up mode because of the cooler thermostat. Good luck!
