    Getrag 260 starter issues

Sooo... I just swapped back to the 260 and am having some issues with my starter... its not making contact with the flywheel. It sits there and whines and whines... I'm assuming the starter clutch is dead?

Could be the starter silinoid (sp?) but are you sure it's bolted on all the way?

It looks like the problem is that my flywheel is spaced too far into the tranny... The cog on the starter sits at the back of the starter- the rod that the cog sits on is plenty long- is the cog supposed to move back and forth on that rod?

      edit: yes it is....

I've replaced the starter and still the same problem.

You're using an m20 starter right? And clutch/flywheel/pressure plate/pilot bearing?

          m20 starter, m20 flywheel, m20 clutch/pressure plate...

Pilot bearing being the bearing the shaft of the tranny fits into? If so, yes.

                Okay-

so i'm retarded... I got the cog to start extending- i was just trying to wire it like my e36 one... meh...

                The problem now?

It doesnt seem like it has enough power to turn the engine over. I'm using a new battery and the voltage is plenty. When I try to turn it over, it lags the engine a bit, then stops turning the flywheel and just starts to click.

                Whats up now?

This might sound silly but did you make sure the car is in neutral? Sounds like something is keeping the engine from turning freely like the transmission is stuck in gear.
