I remember when I was 16 and had big plans for my RX-7. I got advice from a friend's dad to learn how to drive the car first, before I worried about making my car faster. I took his advice, went to a driving school, did a few auto-xs in the summer, and did a few track days at the nearby track. While I know it's fun to tinker (mind you, your project goals are NOWHERE near "tinkering") and make your car faster, I have to give you the same advice I received. Learn to drive your e30 to its fullest potential and spend your money on making yourself better, before you worry about tackling such a huge project.

I gotta agree. Maybe do some AutoX events with your cash rather than spending big bucks.

If you are only 16, hold off on the turbo until you can afford another car to drive. Once you considerably increase horsepower past what the Engineers had in mind, you begin finding the weak links. Weak links cost money to upgrade.

It CAN get very expensive, very fast. Driver mod first, car mod second.

Very true, there's a track about 30 mins from my place. I will def look into it . the only problem is idk if my 227k m20 can handle the track? I can pick up an m50 for $350 right now, I think that will be the better thing to do.

In your position I would vote for the m50 over turbo m20. Simply for the fact that putting a stock engine in on the stock engine management is going to be a better bet than going full on custom.

An engine swap would be a good learning experience.

The suggestion is AutoX, not NASCAR. If you stay stock, you are better off, if you 24v swap, you won't stand a chance. Fix the nut behind the wheel, then you'll be more capable behind every wheel you get behind in the future.

Who's going to do the work? Are you doing it yourself?

If you're paying for the work... keep your stock m20. Don't swap it or turbo.

If you're doing the work yourself go for it. It will be a good experience. You'll know what's going wrong with your car if something does happen to go wrong.

Yes I understand, but it's in my budget. If I do the 24v swap I'll feel a lot better driving my e30. I know that the owner before me abused the fuck outa that m20. Unless I do a rebuild, which I really don't want to do

I won't be doing the work . But it will be about 600-700$ for m50,parts and labor. I just don't got the time and space to do it.

Ok so the m50 will cost you 350. Was that m50 abused?

Now what driveline are you going to run? Oh more $ again
                          What brake booster, more $.
                          how about exhaust? more $
motor mounts and oil pan and motor arms? Oh that's right more money!

so now you have an unknown motor that could blow up or go to crap, more money invested(let's plan for 1500).

take that 1500 and refresh all suspension, all brake parts, and some good tires.

How much did your m50 cost you with everything?

If you are not doing the work, I highly doubt you will end up with a worthwhile 24v swap for $6-700. Just sayin'.
