Poll: Which engine should I get

My m50 isn't too healthy right now- I dont have the time to rebuild, so I think I'm going to just swap motors.

My options as I see them:

    Non-Vanos m50, 108k. $400 - Florida
My SDS system doesn't support on/off variable valve timing so vanos is pointless in my case. The dual valve springs would be a nice addition for my driving style.

    M52b28, 116k. $1000 South Dakota
More displacement than the 2.5l, but is it worth it? (anybody who has driven/ridden in an m52 e30 pipe in here.)

    S52, 93k. $2500 - Washington
Closest to me, so the cheapest shipping- The only thing I have to swap since i'm going stand alone is the intake manifold- which I already have. Kind of expensive for me right now.

    Thanks for your input.

        M50B25 (non vanos).

Cheapest initial cost, cheapest to maintain.

You can mod it later down the road with M3-spec cams (flip the intake to the exhaust side, get a cam reground for S50 intake specs) and make good power with the proper tuning -- fun top end.

If I go with the 2.5- yes

Anything else... no. I dont want more than 300hp... call me crazy.

$400 to ship the 2.5- so that takes it up to $800.

            Couldn't agree more.

Cheap to begin with, cheap to replace, revs high, very strong bottom ends, handle boost well.

I guess that makes 3 of us... I was leaning that way- i'll probably stick with that.

Now i just need to decide 2 small turbos or 1 medium sized one...

That's pretty good price for an M50 anyways.

So do you want to sell yours????:)

2 would be unnecessary. Plus more expensive. And heavier. And more complex to tune/install/maintain.

If you pick the right size turbocharger, you'll have boost down low and very little lag. Especially since you don't want more than ~300hp anyways, 2 turbos seems like a waste. Unless you were planning on fabricating some trick sequential set up with 1 small and 1 big turbo... that would be sick.

If you realize it'll need a rebuild, sure. Complete with e34 oil pan, 3"afm, e36 wiring harness...

                      As for the big-ass turbo...

I want usable power- fuck spooling at 4k. I wanna spool by 2.5k with only 8 lbs of boost- I think 280 whp is a good number...

If i go twin turbo, i'll just use the obd-2 manifolds, flip them upside down and weld some turbo flanges on the end. But yeah... a single turbo would definately be easier/more reliable in the end...I dont want to change my head gasket and all that shit, so i'm sticking with 8psi... two t3s would be sick though.

                        I'll think about it.

the non-vanos sold an hour ago...

                              Now i'm looking at $750 + shipping for a non-vanos motor. $850 + Shipping for a 2.8.
