    I need clutch advise

    I made the mistake of buying a SPEC brand clutch when I first did my swap years ago, and now it has gone out on me sooner than expected. I dont know if I should splurge on a ClutchMasters kit or go with a Sachs oem kit, I tend to go a little hard sometimes. I dont want to do the clutch again in three years, but I also dont want to spend 400+ on a clutch if I dont have to. Ive been out of the loop for awhile, so if you guys have any suggestions for alternative clutch combos that would be greatly appreciated. My setup is m50+getrag260 singlemass flywheel

      I would think you'd be fine with the OEM Sachs kit.

        South Bend stage 3 clutch w/oem dual mass flywheel FTW. Totally worth the money

          can you explain a bit mroe about your setup? I looked them up, butt here's nothing for e30s other than m3s, plus i'm using a m20 single mass flywheel. Thanks

            Why on earth would you need that much clutch unless you are going turbo?

            OP an OE sachs clutch is nothing to shake a stick at. If you want more holding power consider upgrading to a 240mm setup.

              f1 clutches any good?
              I was going with one of them myself. They're pretty cheap.

                Seriously, guys. Unless you're talking boost or huge stoker motors, you're fine with the OEM Sachs kit. There's no point in spending a bunch of money on some overkill clutch setup that you're never going to see the limits of.

                  Thanks Josh, I just needed some reassurance that I'm not going to do this job again anytime soon. Another reason why I was thinking of a beefier clutch is because some time down the line I plan on supercharging the m50, but I'll cross that bridge when i get to it, in the mean time it sounds like the oem clutch is suffient enough.

                      this. stock M50 doesn't have enough oomph to tear up an oem clutch.

                      I ran oem for 100 miles behind my tuned S50 until one of the straps broke. I upgraded to a clutch masters and have no issues.

                        Breaking PP straps has more to do with bad down shifting technique, are you running a 240mm? I have only heard of straps breaking on 228mm setups.

                        I don't know if I would call my s52 with bolt-ons "tuned" but I run it fairly hard from time to time and do a lot of heavy downshifting and engine braking, I haven't broke it or had it slip after a year and a half. I did snap a driveshaft though :-)

                          If you decide to go with this clutch setup just talk to JordanMD88 on bimmerforums and explain what you have engine wise and he'll set you up right.

                          haha Yeah, i am going turbo, for some reason i thought he said he was going turbo in the original post. if he plans on supercharging it later down the road, i'd still suggest to just get the stronger clutch now and not worry about it later.

                            What happened with the Spec clutch? I've got a Spec stage 3+ and these things are good for like 600+ ft lbs, and very streetable.
                            Maybe your slave cylinder rod needs to be a little shorter?
