    S52 swap VSS wiring

Ok, flame me if you must. I have been searching for the past couple of hours about this and i still dont know the definitive correct answer. (too many posts with incomplete information about their chassis/motor etc.)

    Anyways. I have a 89 325i (build date 9/88.) with a 99 s52 converted to obd1. Running a 502 DME with Conforti tune (Euro HFM, Stock inj.)

I have connected my pin 14 from my engine side to pin 14 body side.

Do i still need to connect a wire from the green clip on the back of my cluster to pin 42 on the dme to feed it the vss signal? I can definatly rev past 6k, so does that mean the dme is getting the correct signal?

I cant tell from all the searched threads if this manually wired fix from cluster to dme is for early cars, or e cars only, or for all.....

    Thanks

Your car should have the VSS running through the c101 from the factory so yeah you're good.

Im having the same problem with my car its a 7/86 1987 bmw 325e with a m52 obd1 swap.. When i bought the car it was already swapped but they cut the x20 connector and replaced it with a c101 connector and theres no pin 14 to pin 14 for vss and my car is hitting a wall at 5200rpms.. If i unpug th 413 dme from the harness and reconnect it car runs great will go all the way to 62-6500rpm but after 1st 2nd 3rd gear if i try it again same thing hits a wall..

" Do i still need to connect a wire from the green clip on the back of my cluster to pin 42 on the dme to feed it the vss signal? " Will this fix my problem ??

        Thanks Jorge

I have an 87 325e as well. You snag the VSS from here:

Not sure why they stated it as "tempo" but it has been confirmed that running your VSS from the DME to any of those three marked pins will give the DME the needed VSS.

              Hope this helps.

                Bumping this old thread.

I have an 87 325e, but I do not see this connector on the back of my Motometer cluster.

Any ideas? Last piece of wiring before I finish my swap.

I'm gonna hit the ETM, but thought it was interesting that my car is the same year, yet it doesn't have this connector.

I believe this connector is for cruise control. If your car doesn't have it then I would worry about it.

Ahh, that explains it. My car doesn't have cruise control.

After going through the ETM. It looks like I can grab the signal from the br/rd wire running from my cluster to the OBC.

I'm sure you can grab that plug from a junkyard or someone on here if you wanted to plug it into the back of the cluster to use the signal from it.

I have a few of the green plugs if you need one.
