    OBD2 with M50 Intake Manifold

So I'm debating keeping my S52 OBD2 now, but of course swapping to the OBD1 M50 manifold.

Is something like this needed? http://m50manifold.com//index.php?op...d=26&Itemid=40

Or is there a cheaper solution?

I would not suggest the M50manifold.com kit for a 24v E30 swap because it interferes with both the OBD-I throttle body and the E34 dipstick.

(It is possible to use zip-ties to pull it away from both obstructions but it's really Mickey Mouse and places weird stress on the plastic connector under the manifold.)

While not a cheaper option, the Eurosport kit is far superior for the 24v E30 application, IMO.

I use the M50 manifold.com kits on all my 24v swaps but yes they like to run into the tb.

I made my own with about $20 worth. 1x Tee and 2x 90deg elbows plus a radiator hose i chopped up that had all the bends i needed.

The m50 manifold has a round plug with an o-ring that goes on the back of it (part 11611738629 ) make sure you still have it.

If you search bimmer forums, you'll find the same DIY i used, pic by pic of what to do, lay it out etc. IIRC it connects the intake manifold with the idle control valve and it to the intake boot. Boom done.

If you look at the kite you're llinking, the middle goes to the manifold plug i mentioned above. One end loops down to the idle control valve, the other end goes to the intake boot. You have to use the OBDI intake boot as well so this can connect to it. In the second hole of that intake boot i siliconed my intake air temp sensor.

this should get you all the way.

But don't you keep your obd2 tb with both those kits?

And thanks for the info etxxz. I looked up a thread on bimmerforums, but it looks like the writeup was moved and is gone now. Found several others, but don't know if they are similar to how you did yours.

I have had both obd1 and obd2 throttle bodies on the m50 manifold. Honestly both works. I replaced it cause i broke my throttle cable on day and had to replace it so i pulled TB and cable from a junkyard. I do believe the M50 TB positions the cable better.

Basically i made the hose on that kit with a plastic Tee, two 90 elbows and radiator hose. Same bends. Middle plugs into the back of the intake manifold. Left side goes down to the Idle Valve, Right side goes to throttle body boot. Thats it daw.

There is one vacuum line that goes to the FPR from the intake manifold. and then you have to find a place for the air intake temp sensor, which as i said above, i silicone'd into the intake boot (obd1 has two holes, one for this kit, one for the AIT)

I used the m50manifold kit in my swap after getting frustrated making my own. The silicone hose is really nice and everything lines up right. I couldn't use my OBD1 TB but I don't see that as a disadvantage. There will still be a little fab work. I had to make a small bracket to hold the dipstick

And I had to cut the IAC hose and put a 90 in it to clear the throttle cable. You won't have to do this if you run the throttle cable over your master cylinder but I wanted it out of sight.

You will also need to weld a drip tube onto your dipstick for the PCV return to hook to but you'll have to do that with whichever manifold you use.
