    Thermostat housing

Has anyone tried a thermostat housing from a 97 528i? It has a built in bleeder screw which might make bleeding the cooling system easier.

So I didn't get a chance to try this thermostat housing and since nobody chimed in saying if it would work or not, so I decided to go another route and make my own bleeder. What I used was a 1/8 pipe tap into the housing, and 1/8 to AN fitting with a cap that I could loosen to bleed the system, like the factory m20 housing. Here is a photo of it and so far it worked perfect to bleed the system.

My metal thermostat housing has a bleeder screw in it too that someone installed, it shouldn't be necessary. I drilled a small (1/16) hole in my thermostat at the top (use the tip of the up arrow as a centre punch mark) that way you can bleed air out when the thermostat isn't open yet. I had no troubles bleeding my system at all. I have the late model m20 setup though not the m42.

Yeah I also did the small hole in the thermostat, I just did this in case I had issues with any air in the system.
