    24v Swap wiring adapter questions

    I'm in the process of sourcing parts for a 93 m50b26tu swap into a 85 6cyl chassis. And I want to avoid splicing wires and cutting any of my harness if possible, so from what I've seen I would need to make a wiring harness adapter that would play the middleman role between the engine harness and the chassis harness.

    I'm wondering if you guys can help point me in the right direction, if I'm getting confused somewhere.
    So, to accomplish what i want, I would need a the square c101 plug from an older e30 engine harness and a plug from the chassis side of a m50 harness right?

    Basically this:

    and this (#13):

    Then follow the appropriate wiring diagrams, connect the wires to the correct pins and the end result should be something like this (except with a square early model c101 plug):

      Sounds about right. You will also need to wire in the C104 which is a 3-pin connector that plugs in by the ECU in your glovebox and utilizes the Tach signal, Econometer signal, & OBC Power. You can cut both of these connections (square fusebox plug too) off of your old harness if you aren't using it.

            Why not just cut the x20 off your engine harness and replace it with c101? Adapters are big and bulky.

                +1 on cutting on the harness and splicing in the correct connector. Do it properly the first time.

                  hard wire it by cutting plug and adapting one side , if you cannot get it perfect the first time don't try. send it out to be done for you professionally

                  adapter = GARBAGE.

                      Ok, call me an idiot if this is really stupid but....

                      Couldn't you just trace the wires off of the old and new engines and match things up that way?

                        Because adapters are better, IMHO. Adapters mean that harnesses are interchangeable. They also mean that you don't have to deal with what some other person has done to the engine harness - they confine the changes to an easily removed/replaced component as well.

                        For me, an adapter is VASTLY preferable. To the point where I may replace the harness on my S50B32 because I don't really like what was done to it by the PO.

                            With that mentality you may as well take your car to a mechanic to get your oil changed, or go to the dentist to have them brush your teeth. The whole point of having an e30 is to get your hands dirty and learn something :pimp:

                              I hate oil. Always have it professionally changed, don't care if I built the motor or not.
