    Rubber gaskets? What a joke.

Changed my oil filter housing to a freshly cleaned one. Cleaned both mating surfaces (the block and the housing). Brand new gasket. Tightened all the bolts fairly tight, put back the alternator, turned on the car, huge HUGE puddle of oil under the car, at least a quart. Fuck. Let's try this again.
Took the oil filter housing off, which only lead another large god damn amount of oil to spill. Cleaned both surfaces, this time RTV'd both surfaces with black silicon "oil resistance" crap.
Put all the bolts back on, alternator, turned on the engine. Same amount of oil spewing out.
    Fuck man I'm done.

Oil housings have the dowel pin guides, some of these get stuck in the block or housing, and if you are putting another housing that housing may already have dowel pin in the same location and that will prevent the housing bolting on properly.

Though I did not double check if my new oil housing has the dowel pin stuck on it, I do have a dowel pin on the block that the housing pressed fairly easy on....so I'm assuming I don't have a dowel pin stuck on my current housing.unless there is more than one dowel pin?

There is an o-ring that goes in the housing. you do know that, right?

                      There is no "o-ring" ?

I'm just going to go with the dowel idea, maybe there are two dowels pressing against each other.

Check it for cracks. I've seen these things crack and wreak havoc. There are also usually one or two spots capped off with a circlip and what looks like a metal cover. I've seen those leak too if the oring behind them goes bad.

There are a couple different housings.

                          Exactly.

The early (M50) housings (92-94'?) had 2 plugs in the side similar to that of the M20 filter housing plug.

I ran into this once before myself. I pulled it apart, cleaned it all up and bolted it back together only to have it leak just like before.

You have 2 choices, go with a later housing that does not have to 2 side plugs or you can reseal the two plugs. They are about the size of a quarter and have lock clips in them. There are no specific service parts listed for them but I did find the O-rings that fit perfectly.

                          11-42-1-174-764 X 2

                          Good Luck with it.

Pro-tip: Loosen the oil filter cap and let the oil drain for a minute to help lessen the amount of spilled oil when you remove the filter housing.

Can you show me a closer picture of these circlips? I'm having trouble finding them on the housing.
