    96 ETM confusion

Here's the deal, I have a full drivetrain from an M3. Not sure what year (trying to get the VIN of the donor car right now, which should clear up any issues) it is, so this is part of the issue. Any insight?

It has an MS41.1 ecu (I thought M3's came with MS41.2's, but some googling shows that the MS41.1 was also used on M3's).

Also the package came with a 6 bolt driveshaft. I was under the impression that only 1995 and 1996 cars had the CV joint, 6 bolt rear, so because it's an S52, that leads me to believe it all came from a 1996 car.

Now this is where I'm really confused. I downloaded the 1996 ETM and there is nothing about the S52 in it. However, mention is made of the S50B30.

    Front page:

page with M3 DME information (older Bosch Motronic M3.3) from the same manual

So my question is... wtf? Is it possible that I have a late-production 96 that would follow the 1997 ETM? This is fairly confusing.

EDIT: Doing some research on 6-bolt CV joint driveshafts show me that they were offered on 1995-10/1996 cars. This allows a two-month production overlap with the 1997 ETM, which is for cars produced from 9/1996-8/1997. So perhaps the car was produced in either September/October of 1996 and sold as a 1996 model, but I would use the 1997 ETM for my wiring research.

    Any comments or additional knowledge?

your first clue is that ETM says the ECU is Motronic 3.3. if you have Siemens MS41.1, then you want to look in the next ETM up from there.

hey now, i've got windows 7 running on bootcamp for work. does that make it better?

thanks nando. it's just kinda counterintuitive to look at a 97 manual for a 96 car.
