NANDO, you're the only one who understands me. Basically you're confirming that the output flanges from the 318is are "longer" because they use a smaller case but the same axles

Basically you need output flanges from a 6 cyl e30.

Your 318is uses a small case differential. The flanges you need are from a medium case differential in the 325s and shit like that. His analogy just was saying it wouldn't work even though it was a bad analogy to begin with.

Maybe I'm burnt but I don't get what you mean by that

I'm using the ones from my 4.10. 318is uses a small case?
    Looking at a build from
Jack Benny, he mentions that he uses his stock flanges

I don't know if this applies to your situation or not but I used a 3.15 Z3 diff from a non-M car in my swap. I didn't change axles or stub axles, I just put it in. I've done this twice and never needed to swap anything. Maybe the M cars have a different bolt pattern though?

Yeah the half shafts are different lengths for the E30 vs Z3m or the bolt pattern might also be different but I'm not 100% sure.

Can you help me with my first question about the e30 flanges sticking out more?
