S52, help me decide on an exhaust

Everytime I go looking for spintech exhausts on youtube, nothing comes up for e36s or e30s...

So my plan is to use the stock obd1 headers as they hold back some resonance. Have the header collect and go into a resonator. After the resonator I want an electronic cutout for fun, then off to a muffler. I want it to be decently loud but with a crisp sound that's not too raspy. I have heard great things about spintech and they are cheap as hell. How has spintech been for you guys and which muffler do you recommend? See any problems with my projected setup?

    Thanks guys

personally I would look for a quiet muffler especially if you have the cutout for fun. I wanted a loud muffler and overshot it, now I have to rework the system to quiet it down. many people suggest Vibrant's mufflers and resonators.

I have heard some good Vibrant mufflers behind m/s5X Not excessively loud but a great sound upper end. I wish UUC would do a system U for an E30. The car I recently bought has one on it. Just hate the short diff.

The route I am going with my exhaust is raceland headers to y pipe into a flo-pro exhaust. 2.5 to a vibrant exhaust.

We will see how it goes.

I have used Thrush welded and they sound good with a 24" resonator. Y at the OBD2 headers and 2.5" the rest of the way.

Also did one with a Billy Boat triple chamber. Again a Y at the headers to a 24" resonator (Magnaflow both s52's) to another Y to the Billy Boat cat back.

I have some video, but the camera changed the sound on both of them.

            i'm doing OBD2 headers > y-merge into 2.5" single > magnaflow cat > borla proXS > vibrant streetpower

i want it pretty quiet except for WOT.

I run Raceland long tube > vibrant hi flow cat > vibrant 12" resonator > vibrant muffler all plumbed with 2.5" tubing. Most people think it's too loud. Perfect for me!

Particularly if you are running an electronic cutout so it gets loud when you want it, I HIGHLY recommend the Dynomax 17776 (this is the 3" in, dual 2.5" out version - you may want to change that part up). It is pretty much the absolute largest muffler that it is possible to fit on an E30.

On my headers plus cat blus borla mid section 3" single exhaust, the 17776 gets the exhaust volume down to that of a normal well engineered E36 exhaust. Still a decent noise when you get on it, but very pleasant when cruising. Some will say that it's too quiet, but your exhaust really can't get too quiet when you have a cutout. You'll have the best of both worlds there.

Edit: I should note that the dynomax is the fifth muffler that I have installed in the rear position. I resisted for a long time, but am happier now than I have ever been with the car.

I don't see why the Dynomax wouldn't sound good. For some reason the typical mufflers you would see on American v8's sound good with inlines.

funny, I chose the system U mostly for looks (rolled straight tips) and reputation of quality. of course, it got hacked up in order to be fitted to the E30 but the essence is there and man, is it freaking loud!

not that loud except wot on my e36. maybe because of OBD II center section.

I resisted the Dynomax because you can't buy a stainless version. Nobody seems to sell a suitable muffler in stainless' unfortunately. As is, it sounds great. I do slightly miss the straight through muffler scream, but not as much as I grew to hate the noise the rest of the time.

My 3" exhaust is killing me, that dynomax might just be the answer. I have raceland longtubes, no cat and a Redline muffler (never heard of the brand but it is quality stuff) Sounds amazing up until 4500 then it is just too damn loud for my taste, I feel bad winding out the motor in town because it is so loud. Oh well right now my swapped e30 is in pieces, 318 sedan DD FTW!
