    S50TUB25 for $250! Should I?

I have the opportunity to buy a M50TUB25 motor with the wiring harness, all the injectors, coils, for $250. The motor has 250k miles on it and has a blown head gasket. The motor hydro-locked but was started again and drove fine. I know I am going to have to send it to a machine shop and have it pressure tested and possibly have more work done. Should I jump on this or let it pass?

I would. $250 isn't much at ALL for any M Power motor. Even a M52/M50 franken-S50 can't get that cheap.

If you have to do some work on the motor, what's the most the bill will run up? Maybe do some tests to rule out what you can. If the motor costs you $700 in the car, is that bad?

Im not sure how much it would cost at machine shop. If everything is good I would like to port and polish head, do a gasket match, and add a s52 cam.

i would factor at least an additional $1000 for machining, maintenance, seals/gaskets/whathaveyou.

also, i don't know why anyone hasn't commented on this, but is it an M50TU with an S50 head/valvetrain/camshafts? maybe i missed something..

I bought an M50tu for $175. I've spent $1500 already just rebuilding it.
            $300 for the machine shop.

Replaced the sprocket and the guides and the oil pan. That is just the top 3 parts. The list goes on and on. I'm about to call for parts again. But this engine is gonna run like new.

                  ahhhhhh. ah. ah i see.

in that case then, it's a gamble but at the very worst you could part it out and still come out on top.

                        Buy it and part it.

I see people buy running M50's for 200-400 all the time. My buddy bought a 94 325i with bad thermostat for 350. Kept the motor and parted the car for almost a grand.

Now bring the car by the shop so I can see it!!

I will be by Saturday after work for sure. Bought a Kenwood reciever this morning and getting the touring GC kit from Mark today also. Hopefully the Kopi 17" will be in and on the car before the end of Novemeber. By that time mine might be worthy of parking next to your sex machine.

If it hydro locked it might have bent rods.
