    Mystery Gasket

I bought a VR block gasket set for my S52 and I can not figure out what this gasket goes to. I don't remember seeing it when tearing the engine down and I can't find it on RealOEM. Anyone know what its for? It has to be somewhere on the bottom end.

And because everyone like pics of projects...

I didn't think that S52's had an oil level sensor, I'll have to look at the old oil pan when I get home tonight.

Its not the timing case crankshaft seal. This one is a little smaller and rubber.

Is it possible it is the very small OBD2 throttle body gasket? Or your vano gasket?

I just rebuilt mine, and had no such gasket on my OBD1 motor

            They use a black oring.

Looks like front timing cover/crank seal, but you say its all soft rubber, any angle pics of it.

Here are a few more pictures. I wonder if its a gasket from something else that got thrown into my set.

              See, flexible like an o-ring

An up next to the timing case/crank seal (which was included in the kit)

                OIL LEVELLING SENSOR O-ring
The greatest honor an e36 could ever have... to be parted out and have its parts used in an e30.

The difference between a porcupine and BMW’s. BMW’s have the pricks inside.

That looks like it, thanks. Here is a picture of that part number from AutohausAZ

Funny it was included in my kit since the S52 does not use it, but I will be using it with my e34 pan (when I get one).

Thanks, it was a lot of cleaning, and the shop you told me about (Bob's Mechanical) did a great job cleaning the block and head. Some before pictures...

                        Just about everything was rusted.

I really need to do a project thread one of these days.
