In the long thread at the top it says to use an M20 temp sensor in place of the M50 one when doing a swap. Well, my car started as a 318is so does that mean I should use a M42 temp sensor?

When it comes to the temp gauge, I would stick with whatever gauge you had originally with the car. The M42 sensor
If all else fails, try each one. I know it's a bitch, but if all else fails....
In my M30 conversion, I was told to stick with my regular stock M20 sensor..

Well i ran into a problem when hooking up the wiring harness and found out i needed 2 x 2 prong coolant sensors because the harness only came with one one prong connector which went on the back of the e36 oil filter housing .
