why? Because it makes the cam timing "hotter"???

because you can adjust the cam timing to spool the turbo earlier. The vanos motors have milder cams from the factory which is the only reason they don't produce more power than the NV in stock form. The only downsides to vanos are the larger physical dimensions, extra tuning work, and the vanos seals that need occasional refreshing.1997 540i/6 - stock

Horrible thread jack, jeez! Check e30tech out, all the turbo guys are over there. But i'm sure you have already. Once you get into the turbo world it'll all make more sense.1989 E30 Zinnoberrot Vert 325i OBD1 S52 turbo;IPComment

If you come over today bring your m20 harness and we will see if it has the proper connectors, I don't think it will and I don't quite see the point.
Either way, good write up.Comment

I think it might work. He also said this
"It depends on what version of MS you run. If you're on an M20 now or MS2 or earlier, it's batch fire so you only need a crank, tps, coolant temp, and air temp signals + fuel injectors & spark to fire the motor. Also the main & fuel pump relays but that's more or less independent of the motor as is the wideband. If you use the e36 harness, there are a LOT of unused wires."
Im fairly optimistic. Im Using as little of the wiring harness that i can in the first place.Comment
