    Loose vanos cover bolts?!

Has anyone ever had issues with their m5x/s5x vanos housing bolts coming loose?

I cracked up the valve cover to replace the valve cover gasket to find my vanos cover held on by the 5 bolts that were almost backed out to the point of grenading the engine! (literally, the picture shows how i found the bolts)

Its not shown here, but there is a bolt near the bottom of the cover that i CANT reach for the life of me. Do you guys recommend removing the vanos, and tightening down the cover bolts w/ locktite, or is there some magical way to get a wrench in there to get that badboy nice and proper?

    HELP!!

Yes. This EXACT thing has happened to me. I actually rebuilt a VANOS with the Beisan Systems kit, torqued the bolts to 89 in-lb with a in-lb torque wrench. After around 16K miles of driving I pulled the valve cover. I saw these bolts had backed off even more than yours.

So, I removed the VANOS and rebuilt it again, this time tightening to 89in-lb and snugging the three bolts a touch more. There might be a way to do this without completely removing the VANOS but you'd probably need a half moon wrench or somethign weird like that.

Damn...that is sooo sketchy. Did you end up using locktite on the bolts when you re installed everything?

Yeah, I can basically get all the bolts snug besides the bolt at the very bottom of the cover. wish i could have snapped a pic of it before leaving for class. I'd hate to remove the vanos, to have them back out again.

I did use blue loctite on the bolts to be extra sure. Honestly though, with a slightly extra snugging they won't back out. I rebuilt another VANOS for another engine, just doing the extra snugging step with no loctite and they didn't back out after around 20K miles.

Is there anyway to do this without removing the vanos?
