HELP: Can I run my S50 on an M50 chip?

I realize this is not ideal, but I'm supposed to be picking up my S50 swap car from the exhaust shop and my TRM chip which was scheduled to be delivered today didn't get here due to weather / holidays. The car currently has a 413 red label DME and stock chip from a E36 325i. I've started the car a few times on open headers and the idle just seems really off (I can post videos if needed). I just need to know if I will damage the motor at all by driving it on an M50 chip.

Nothing is more assuring than a tow truck if you are worried about engine damage. Just my 2 cents. I have no clue if it will work or not

Unless you have the ever elusive automotive crystal ball, all opinions will be ROMA data. If you are truly concerned about being safe, hook up a wide band 02 sensor and drive it where it is in safe AFRs.

They are the same exact computer. As long as you have matching injectors and MAF, you will be fine. I have tuned both ECU's and there's only slight differences in the files on the chips themselves to begin with. I have read dozens of 413 chips and burned just as many...

By matching injectors and MAF you mean the same as what's on the chip correct? The M50 runs 17# injectors and a 3" mad which is what I have on my S50 so it should be alright for a drive home? I obviously won't be on it hard.

I have run s52's on m50 injectors and MAF without issue (413), also run s52's on s52 (24#) injectors with a 413 and my chip. Problems come when you have much larger injectors than the chip is burned for.

Won't make as much power and be a little lean until the ECU learns, though, but yeah, NBD for a drive.

Yeah, I would not pound on it - that's asking for trouble.

Wait ... so when I started my swap I read in a few places that the 413 dme from athe regular 325 will work on my s50... and now you guys say it will have less power than an m3 computer? Or is the op talking a bout a chipped 325 dme??

They are the same DME but the chip is different. A regular 325 computer will work, but you need a proper tune for the S50 (whether that be OEM or aftermarket) for it to run at peak performance.
